Ascent

She stood at the edge of the cliff, readying herself for the next step. She told herself she could do it. That she had been preparing herself for this very moment. She closed her eyes, breathed in the salt air of the sea, and listened to the roar of the waves hitting the rocks below. The smell and the sound beckoned her, telling her just one more step and she would be free….. She thought about what brought her here. Her sadness, her fear, her life. She steadied herself one more time and with a clear mind and heart stepped off the edge. She could feel herself falling but she had no fear. She put her arms out, felt the tattooed wings on her back become real, protrude and catch the wind. She was flying and she would never be afraid again…..

    • Oh thanks Stu. It just fell out of my head. Not sure what to do with it yet. Might just keep it the way it is. She in the story is me. But don’t we writers always write about ourselves in someway?
