Tunesday-An American Girl by Bonnie McKee

Bonnie+McKee+Smoking

After yesterday’s post it’s time to lighten the mood for Tunesday. Here’s a cute little ditty from Bonnie McKee. Crank it up baby and dance your pants off!

I fell in love in a 7/11 parking lot
Sat on the curb drinking slurpees we mixed with alcohol
We talked about all our dreams and how we would show ’em all (whoa oh oh oh)
I told him I got a plan and I’m gonna dominate
And I don’t need any man to be getting in my way
But if you talk with your hands then we can negotiate (whoa oh oh oh)
I just keep moving my body (yeah)
I’m always ready to party (yeah)
No I don’t listen to mommy (yeah)
And I’ll never say that I’m sorry

Chorus
Oh I’m an American girl
Hot blooded and I’m ready to go I’m loving taking over the world
Hot blooded, all american girl (Whoa) I was raised by a television
Every day is a competition Put the key in my ignition (Oh-way-oh)

I wanna see all the stars and everything in between I wanna buy a new heart out of a vending machine
Cause It’s a free country so baby we can do anything (Whoa)
I just keep moving my body (yeah) I’m always ready to party (yeah) No I don’t listen to mommy (yeah) and I’ll never say that I’m sorry

Chorus
Oh I’m an American girl Hot blooded and I’m ready to go I’m loving taking over the world Hot blooded, all American girl (Whoa) I was raised by a television Every day is a competition Put the key in my ignition (Oh-way-oh)

You know we’re gonna shine so bright (Oh we’re gonna shine so bright…) Oh baby gonna go all night (Oh we’re gonna go all night) You know we’re gonna shine so bright (Oh we’re gonna shine so bright…) Oh baby gonna go all night

Chorus
Oh I’m an american girl
Hot blooded and I’m ready to go I’m loving taking over the world Hot blooded, all american girl (Whoa) I was raised by a television Every day is a competition Put the key into my ignition (Oh-way-oh)

Oh I’m an american girl
Hot blooded and I’m ready to go I’m loving taking over the world
I’m an American girl…

Tunesday-Detroit Rock City Baby!

Big Daddy Arthur P

I grew up listening to Big Daddy Arthur P on 101.1 the WRIF. He was and still is quite a character. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of my followers from around the country might know his name. If not, you may know the distinct sound of his voice and the way he says his trademark word, baby.

Enjoy the tuneage while I stroll down memory lane for a bit. I love Bob and Kid, but my favorite Detroiter is Jack White. Going to listen to a little Love Interruption and swoon.

XOXOXOXOOXOXOXOXO,

Sparkly Girl

Bob Seger (They do respect her but, they love to watch her strut. Yes, this song often brings out my inner stripper.)

Kid Rock

Jack White (Every breath that is in your lungs is a tiny little gift to me….)

Love Interruption (My favorite!!!!)

Tunesday-Today is Simply Sublime

Swear I would do most anything. Walk a mile to see her smile. Walk a mile just to rock for awhile.-Bradley Nowell

I blame my love of Sublime on my friend M.  I swear to you I’m a boy when it comes to some of my music choices. Bradley had a filthy mouth. He was an addict. Totally fucked in the head too. Maybe that’s why I liked him so much. He didn’t give a fuck, or so it seemed. His attitude was about self preservation, but he was hell bent on self destruction. It made him stick needles in his arms and shoot heroin. Self medicate.

The tortured genius left this world too soon. He died of a heroin overdose on May 18, 1996. I was a young wife and mom. But that didn’t mean I didn’t long to be one of the punk girls in a dark and dingy club in LBC. Swooning to the sounds of a fucked up front man with a stolen guitar.

Now get up and dance to the ska and reggae beat. Smile and be happy.

XOXOXOXXOXOXO

The Passionate Son

The curl

Nothing you would take. Everything you gave. Hold me till I die. Meet you on the other side…..

Raised by false father

Mother lied of lineage

Brought into this world

The Passionate Son

Music was his muse

His outlet

His life

His friend

When alone

Avid surfer

The Ocean

His element

Sand in his toes

As he wrote

Created and

Became a

Superstar

Rode that wave

Head down

Eyes open

Body strong

Heart burdened

He rode the curl

Tears flowed

For an unknown father

Even after all this time

They still do

Today has been a Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder kind of day. It started with a conversation with my colleague Shari. We discussed what song Eddie wrote especially for us. I won’t tell you what they are. It might be in another post. I talked to Harry for a minute and told him thank you for making me listen to PJ. I never liked them much, till he forced me to succumb to their genius. Now I can’t get enough.

I listen to Eddie’s album Ukelele Songs on a weekly basis. It’s not his voice that I’m drawn to, so much as his words. He’s a passionate soul. I’d like to think if I ever got the chance to meet him, our conversation would be deep. Like the ocean that he loves. That he’s written and still sings about.  Maybe he’d even teach me how to surf. Maybe he’d teach me that a little fear of deep water is nothing compared to riding that curl.

Tunesday-Sweet, Sweet Florence

Rabbit_Heart_XI_by_RavenBlakh

No dawn, no day, I’m always in this twilight…-F&TM

In a darkened room you lie. Headphones on. No earbuds can bring her voice to your heart. You must hear all of her to feel the words. As the remix begins, your senses heighten. Skin prickles and the hair on your neck stands erect. You are aware of everything. You hear in color. Red, purple, green, white, yellow. There are sparks of light. You see her heart, illuminated. It warms your cold one. You begin to glow. To burn.

Let her voice wash over you. Hear the jagged subtlety of the dub step rhythm. Place your arms on either side of your head. Let them rest. Move your body slowly to the sounds you hear, see, taste, touch. Feel her, whispering sweetly in your ear. Crimson hair grazes your cheek. There’s such peace. A tear trickles down the side of your face. You reach out and find nothing, but vapor. You long to be her. With the song over, hit repeat. Let you journey begin, again.

Maybe you’ll leave the Cosmic Love behind, and  Howl!

The Appalachian Waltz-For Lisa and Tina

My dear Lisa asked me to write a story to her favorite song. She sent it to me about 20 minutes ago. It’s not a story but a verse, prose, or whatever you call it.

I included my Tina also. She’ll know why. I hope she will anyway.

Thank you Lisa. From the bottom of my heart. I love you. For so much. How will I ever repay you?

She’s seated

In the audience

Her gloved hands wrenched together

She can’t relax

Too many things, have changed

Too many lives, affected

The fall

It was like an avalanche

Taking her heart and

Other lives with it

The music swelled

In the low notes she felt the sorrow fill her soul

The auditorium is packed

But the song is played for her alone

The strings of the cello played like the beat of her heart

As the music faded

The lights dimmmed

Her hands settle

The tempo of her broken heart slowed

Healed

A lilt of smile returned to her lips

Applause came and then died

House lights were illuminated

She filed out of the theater

Alone, but with purpose

Never Think-What’s in Your Heart

305641-robert-pattinson

I’m enamored with Robert Pattinson. I would wander around Hollywood for days just to get a glimpse of him. I will write about him one of these days. Tonight I post a beautiful song that he recorded a few years ago. The first time I heard it, I cried. Then I swooned. I’ve always had a soft spot for British men.

Enough. Play the video and listen to the lyrics. Let them haunt you. Make you feel. Long for love lost. Someday I’ll write a story to it. Tonight I’m too damn tired to do so. I’ll listen to the words though and feel every one of them. I’ll fall into bed and dream a sweet dream. Of beauty and peace. Of hope. Gnight my sweets.

I should never think
What’s in your heart
What’s in our home
So I won’t

You’ll learn to hate me
But still call me baby
Oh love
So call me by my name

And save your soul
Save your soul
Before you’re to far gone
Before nothing can be done

I’ll try to decide when
She’ll lie in the end
I ain’t got no fight in me
In this whole damn world
So hold off
She should hold off
It’s the one thing that I’ve known

Once I put my coat on
I’m coming out in this all wrong
She’s standing outside holding me
Saying “Oh please,
I’m in love,
I’m in love!”

Girl save your soul
Go on save your soul
Before it’s too far gone
And before nothing can be done

Cause without me
You got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
Without me you got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
So hold on.

Tune Tuesday (Until I can think of a better title)

tune tuesday

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”Victor Hugo

I’ve decide that I’m going to post up a video or five every Tuesday morning. I’m a music whore from back in the day. My tastes are eclectic. I may post just about anything. Ska, hip hop, rap, dance, electronica, grunge, pop, classical, opera, show tunes, punk, and the list goes on and on. Strap in babies. It’s going to be fun.

This week I’m posting videos from two women that I admire. Katy Perry is a bubble gum pop star. I’m not into all of her music, but this song echoes in the romantic part of my heart that still breaks from love lost. I dedicate it to L and P. Most especially L. It’s the stripped down version. Acoustic, haunting, and nostalgic. Yes, it makes me cry. Every damn time I listen to it. Every damn time.

The next video is from Serena Ryder. I’m enamored with the smokiness of her voice. It’s wounded, but strong. A young Bonnie Raitt complete with guitar. She’s one not to be fucked with. Stompa makes me want to grind. And believe me honey, I do. In my living room, the dance floor and my car.

Okay, here’s one more. I heard it on the radio and it made me think of an old friend. Love you B.

We’re running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, it’ll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They’ll come true in the end

You said, oh girl, it’s a cold world
When you keep it all to yourself
I said, you can’t hide on the inside
All the pain you’ve ever felt
Ransom my heart, but baby don’t look back
‘Cause we got nobody else

We’re running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, it’ll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They’ll come true in the end

You know that sometimes, it feels like
It’s all moving way too fast
Use every alibi and words you deny
That love ain’t meant to last
You can cry tough, baby
It’s all right
You can let me down easy
But not tonight

We’re running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, it’ll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They’ll come true in the end

Trying to Find my Happiness at Christmas

Christmas Jack

I want it, oh, I want it
Oh, I want it for my own
I’ve got to know
I’ve got to know
What is this place that I have found?
What is this?
Christmas Town, hmm…
I’m not a big fan of Christmas anymore. The music is horrid and Roger Darling insists on listening to it from the beginning of November till December 26th. It’s all this sparkly girl can do to keep from cutting herself every time I have to ride in his car with him. If you’ve read me for very long you know I’m passionate about a few things. Okay, I’m passionate about everything. But music is my biggest passion. However movies are another. And of course there’s the lovely Sally and Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Sally is my alter ego. In my heart beats the musings and music of a pretty dead girl. Don’t ask me why. Some things can’t be explained, nor should they be.
I love the movie, the music, and the love story. For someone so loud and shiny, I can be quite morose. This time of year especially. I was trying to think of a song to cheer me up. Then this silly picture of Jack came up in my FB newsfeed. I knew the song I had to post up. What’s This from TNBC. Of course! I watched the video this morning and sang along. Christmas time began to buzz in my skull and I was happy. I do know the reason for the season. But it seems so many others have forgotten. I’m not trying to be sacrilegious with my post. I’m only trying to find my happy place. Of course it would come in the form of Jack and Sally. Now it’s time for this Sparkly Girl to get ready to head to Sis’s place for dinner and a crazy White Elephant gift exchange.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours. Much love to you all. Eat and drink too much and then take a shit ton of Mylanta to settle your stomach. XOXOXOXOXOOXOXOXOXOXOX
